Dream Come True!

The roar of the crowd echoed around the ice hockey rink as Ali scored the winning goal of the final game of the season. His name was bellowed by every single fan in the rink.

“ALI! ALI!  ALI!” They all screamed….

And that’s when Ali’s eyes fluttered open.

Ali sighed; Ali had dreamed all along to become a famous hockey player. In all his fantasies, he only longed for the moment when the crowd would be silent; holding their breath and Ali would be skating at his top speed towards his opponent. He would deke not one or two, but three players from the opposite team in one go. The crowd would gasp for air, clenching their fists tightly. And then, Ali would be clear to face the goalkeeper. One-on-one, he would deke left, then right, then just when the goalkeeper dives for the save he would shoot and score. The crowd would jump in frenzy and Ali would wave back to the cheering and applauding crowd.

Ali knew deep down inside, one day his dream would come true. His room was adorned with posters of hockey giants like Wayne Gretzky, Mats Sundin, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovetchkin. When he grew up he wanted to play for NHL and right now a good hockey kit would help him further his ambitions.

Ali quickly woke up. Today, he was super happy as it was the day when he could finally work towards fulfilling his dream. After receiving $300 as his Eid gift the day before, Ali had finally managed to save enough money for his hockey kit. Ali’s father has promised him that he would take him to buy his hockey kit today, and Ali could hardly wait.

After a long day at school, the time finally came for Ali to go, get his hockey kit. Ali was impatient and so he went outside his doorstep waiting for his dad to come. As he waited, he noticed his neighbor, Hussain, sitting outside by his doorstep, his head in his hands.

Ali walked over to him and said, “Salãmun alaykum Hussain.”

“Wa’alaykum Salam,” replied Hussain, sitting up straight, his voice a bit sad.

“Are you OK Hussain? How come you’re so sad?” asked Ali.

“Oh, I’m fine. It’s just that the devastating flood back home has destroyed my neighbour’s home and they are asking for help.” Hussain said with deep sadness and with trembling voice.

“Oh…I see” Ali said deeply saddened himself. Ali and Hussain had been neighbors ever since Ali had moved to Toronto from Multan less than a year ago. Ali’s father was still struggling for a better job and so they lived from “hand to mouth”.

Ali had seen the heart breaking images of the people affected by the floods on his TV.

Ali couldn’t believe it. His friends neighbours in Multan was devastated by the flood and here Ali was happily about to go blow money on unimportant things, things that could wait a little longer.

“Who cares…?” A voice whispered within Ali. “You’ve waited so long to fulfill your dream… you can’t just give it up for some flood affected family and that too far away in Pakistan.” The voice said. Ali knew that was the voice of the Satan. He couldn’t possibly listen to him.

Without further hesitation, Ali stood up and ran back home to his room. He found an empty envelope and pulled out all his money from his jeans pocket. He slowly counted all the money carefully, it was exactly $750.  After tucking the cash in the envelope, Ali ran back downstairs towards Hussain.

“Hussain…” Ali began, “Here, take this.”

Confused and bewildered Hussain asked “Wha...t? Take what.”

Ali handed the envelope to Hussain and said, “Send this money to your neighbour, it should help them”. Hussain was speechless, slowly and silently, he raised his hand to receive the envelope.

Ali went back inside, he was a little sad and disappointed but he knew that he had done the right thing.

Later, when Ali’s father came home, Ali told him why they couldn’t go today to buy his hockey kit. Ali’s father was overjoyed and proud of his son’s righteous act.

A few weeks after this incident, Ali was eating his diner with his family when he heard someone knock on his door.

“I’ll get it,” Ali said as he rushed to open the door.

It was Hussain at the door. Hussain has tears streaming down his face as he ran to give Ali a hug.

“Thank you! Thank you!” He said between sobs of happiness. “Because of your help, my neighbours are on their way to recovery”.

Ali had tears of happiness in his voice too as he heard the happy news of his friend’s neighbour.

Ali was pleased with himself for doing a good deed.

And that’s when Ali finally realized his dream had come true. All the Angels, Prophets and Imams were cheering Ali as Ali had scored the winning goal into the hearts of humanity. Ali had pleased Allah and surely Allah will reward him in this world and in the hereafter.

The Importance of Salat al-Jamaat

The Salat is the most important act of worship in Islam, and if it is accepted by Allah (SWT), then all other acts of worship are accepted as well. However, if the Salat is not accepted, then all other actions also will not be accepted. It has been narrated from the 6th Imam, Ja 'far ibn Muhammad as-Sadiq, peace be upon him, quoting his forefathers up to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, that he said:
“If there was a strem at the house of any one of you in which he washes himself five times a day, will ther remain any dirt on your body? Verily, the likeness of the Salat is the same as the stream. The Person who establishes the ritual prayers clears out his sins thereby, execpt for the sin that take him out from the faith that he believes in”. (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 82, Pg. 236)
In Islam, perhaps there is no other Mustahab act that carries such benefits and results as Salat al-Jamaat. As for the importance of it, we quote one narration in which it has been mentioned that:
· If two people form a Jama'at, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to one hundred and fifty prayers.
· If there are three people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to six hundred prayers.
· If there are four people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to one thousand two hundred prayers.
· If there are five people, the reward for one Rak'at will be equal to two thousand four hundred prayers, & such does the reward multiply, that if there are more than ten people in the Jama'at, then if all the skies were paper, all the seas were ink, all the trees were pens, and all the men, Jinn, and Angels got together as scribes to record the reward of one Rak'at, they would not be able to do it.
In the same narration, it is mentioned that the Takbir (Allahu Akbar) that the believers say after the leader of the ~alat is better and more beloved to Allah that sixty thousand Hajj and 'Umrah, and better than this world and all that is in it- sixty times over! Each Rak'at that the believer performs in Jama'at is better than offering one hundred thousand dinars in charity to the poor, and his sajdah is better than if he was to free one hundred slaves.

It has been emphatically recommended that all obligatory Salat, with special emphasis on Salat al-Fajr, Maghrib and 'Isha be offered in congregation. More stress has been laid upon those who live in the neighborhood of a Masjid, and upon those who can normally hear the Adhan from their homes.

It is therefore, reprehensible to underestimate or ignore Salat al-Jama'at, and according to the Islamic rulings, it is not permitted to keep away oneself from the Salat al-Jama'at unduly, nor is it proper to abandon it without a justifiable excuse.

It is further Mustahab to wait for some time until the Salat al-Jama'at begins with the intention to participate in the Salat, since a short congregational Salat is better than a prolonged Salat offered alone. It is also better to wait for the Salat al-Jama'at to be established, even if it is offered after the prime time rather than to pray alone. In fact, if a person realizes that the Salat al-Jama'at has been established but he has already read his Salat, it is Mustahab to repeat the prayers again in Jama'at.

1]. The Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, said: "Verily, when one of Allah's servants establishes the Salat in congregation and asks Him something which He does not grant him, Allah will be ashamed until He fulfills it.”

2]. Imam' Ali ibn Musa al-Riza, peace be upon him, said: "The excellence of the congregation Salat compared to a solitary Salat, is one Rak'at to two thousand Rak'at

3]. The Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, said: "One prayer of a man in congregation is worthier than his forty years of prayers at home (alone).”

4]. Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, peace be upon him, said: "The person who abandons the congregation (Salat) without having an excuse, and only for unwillingness or in order to avoid attending the gathering of Muslims, has no Salat (his Salat will not be accepted).”

5]. Once a blind man came to the Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him and his family, and said that there was not anyone to take him to the Masjid to attend the congregational Salat with him (the Prophet), when he heard the call to prayer. The Holy Prophet, peace be upon him said, "Stretch a rope from your house up to the Masjid and attend the congregational Salat.

(F) LIMITLESS REWARD  

Allah has put a big reward for congregational prayers:
Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w.) & the Imams of Ahlul-Bayt (a.s.) have laid great stress on Cngregational Payer.
The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w.) said that if there are only 2 persons (Imam & only one Mamum) in Congregational Prayer, every Rak’at gets the reward of 150 prayers. The reward is increased by the increase in the number of persons. Thus, in a Congregational Prayer of 3 persons, every Rak’at gets reward of 600 persons.

If there are 4, every Rak’at gets reward of  1,200 prayers.
If there are 5, every Rak’at gets reward of  2,400 prayers.
If there are 6, every Rak’at gets reward of  4,800 prayers.
If there are 7, every Rak’at gets reward of  9,600 prayers.
If there are 8, every Rak’at gets reward of  19,200 prayers.
If there are 9, every Rak’at gets reward of  38,400 prayers.
If there are 10, every Rak’at gets reward of 76,800 prayers.

If there are more than 10, then nobody can estimate its reward except Allah. (Marhum Allama Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi – Elements of Islamic Studies)
It is Mustahab that obligatory prayers, especially the daily prayers, are performed in congregation, & more emphasis has been laid on congregational prayers for Fajr, Maghrib & Isha, & also for those who live in the neighborhood of a Mosque, & are able to hears its Adhan.
It is not permissible to absent oneself from the Congregational Prayers unduly, & it is not proper to abandon Congregational Prayers without a justifiable excuse.

Words to live by...

1. Give Allah what's right -- not what's left.

2. Man's way leads to a hopeless end -- Allah's way leads to an endless hope.

3. A lot of kneeling will keep you in good standing. 4. He who kneels before Allah can stand before anyone.

5. In the sentence of life, the devil may be a comma -- but never let him be the period.

6. Don't put a question mark where Allah puts a period.

7. Are you wrinkled with burden? Come to the mosque for a face-lift.

8. When praying, don't give Allah instructions -- just report for duty.

9. Don't wait for six strong men to take you to the mosque.

10. We don't change Allah's message -- His message changes you.

11. The mosque is prayer-conditioned.

12. When Allah ordains, He sustains.

13. WARNING: Exposure to the Allah may prevent burning.

14. Plan ahead -- It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.

15. Most people want to serve Allah, but only in an advisory position.

16. Suffering from truth decay? Brush up on your Koran.

17. Exercise daily -- walk with Allah.

18. Never give the devil a ride -- he will always want to drive.

19. Nothing else ruins the truth like stretching it.

20. Compassion is difficult to give away because it keeps coming back.

25. Allah doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

26. Read the Koran -- It will scare the hell out of you. "Those who believe (in the Oneness of God - Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the rememberance of Allah. Verily, in the rememberance of Allah do hearts find rest." (Quran Ar-Ra'd 13:28)

Sub-h'aanallaahi wal h'amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu akbar

Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s) says that the Messenger of Allah (saw) turned towards his companions and said, "Pick up the sheild of Allah." The companions asked, "There is no enemy; why should we pick up the shield?" The Holt Prophet (saw) said, "Pick it up for combating the Hell and recite Sub-h'aanallaahi wal h'amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu akbar."

Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s) says that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, "Recite Sub-h'aanallaahi wal h'amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu akbar often because this statement will come to you surrounded by angels and will be included among your good deeds."

Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s) says, "One who says Sub-h'aanallaah Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise. One who says Alh'amdulillaah then too a tree will be planted for him in Paradise. Similarly, one who says laa ilaaha illallaah then also Allah will plant a tree for him in Paradise. Allah will also plant a tree for one who recites Allah akbar. A man of quraish said, "O Messenger of Allah (saw) then there would be many trees in the Paradise for us?" "Yes but br careful that you do not send fire or they all would get burnt up. That is why the Almighty Allah said: 'O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle and do not make your deeds of no effect.'"

Imam Jafar Sadiq (a.s) says that one day the Messenger of Allah (saw) asked his companions,  "Do you know that if your clothes and utensils are gathered in one place and kept one above another they reach the sky?" They replied, "No!" The Holy Prophet (saw) said, "Should I tell you about a thing whose roots are in the earth and branches above the sky?" Everyone replied,
Indeed we want to know it." The Holy Prophet (saw) said, "One who recites  Sub-h'aanallaahi wal h'amdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha illallaahu akbar (the roots of this statement are in the earth and its branches are above the sky) thirty times after each obligatory prayers the above statement will safeguard him from being crushed under a wall, drowning, falling in well, falling prey to wild animals, death due to accidents and from dangerous things falling from skies. This statement will remain as permanent good deeds for him."

Friday and Friday Nights Importance

The children of Hazrat Yaqoob ( a.s.) [Jacob] asked their father to request Allah to forgive them.  Hazrat Yaqoob (a.s.) said;   " I will ask for your forgiveness from, my Lord"  (Yunus, verse 98)
Interpreting this verse, Imam Sadeq (a.s.) has said:  " Hazrat Yaqoob (a.s.) delayed asking forgiveness until dawn of Friday night." 
(It indicates the importance of asking forgiveness during Shabe Juma)

There are two hours on Friday when Duas are answered: one is when Friday leader has completed the sermon and the worshippers are prepared for Friday prayer. 
The other is the last moments of Friday that is:  "When half face of the sun is hidden."

Imam Baqer (a.s.) has said:" On Friday one must keep a time from the beginning of moon until an hour, for the Holy Prophet of Islam (SAW) has said during this hour no servant requests anything from Allah unless his request is granted ."

Treat People with Moral Conduct

Holy Prophet (saww) said: "You can not treat (please all the) people by means of your wealth; hence you should treat them by means of your moral conduct".

 

Moral conduct is a mood arousing good behavior with others by showing cheerful face, nice wording, and kind manners. When he was asked about the limit of moral conduct, Imam As-Sadiq (a) answered: “It is to be modest, to speak honorably, and to meet your brother cheerfully.”

 

One of the expectations that every judicious individual exerts efforts for achieving is to have an attractive personality. It is surely a noble aim that cannot be attained by everyone except the virtuous and those who are characterized by knowledge, ability, liberality, courage, and the like good traits. All virtues, however, cannot be true matters of admiration unless they are connected to moral conduct. On that account, moral conduct is the core and pivot of virtues. The Ahl ul-Bayt (a) used a variety of instructive methods in favor of glorifying the moral conduct so remarkably:

 

The Prophet (s) said: “The best of you are the most well-mannered and generous ones who go on intimate terms with people and people go on intimate terms with them, and whose places of residence are frequently trodden on by guests.”

 

“He who has a good nature will have the reward of those who observe fasting in days and keep awake praying at nights.”

 

Imam al-Baqir (a) said: “The most perfect believers, in the sight of faith, are the most well-mannered.”

 

Imam as-Sadiq (a) said: “After the fulfillment of the obligatory religious duties, the most favorable thing that a servant offers to Allah is to extend the moral conducts over people.”

 

“Allah gives a servant for his moral conduct the same reward that He gives to the Mujahid.”

 

“The moral conduct dissolves sins in the same way as the sun dissolves snow.”

 

“Piety and moral conduct construct the countries and prolong the ages.”

 

“If you want to be respected, you should be lenient, and if you want to be disrespected, you may be severe.”

 

God did not send any messenger to people before He had adorned him with moral conduct, which is, then, the symbol of the prophets’ virtues and the title of their personalities.

 

The Prophet Mohammed (s) was the ideal example of moral conduct, as well as the other high moral standards. By means of his ideal moralities, he could seize the hearts, and deserved, worthily, the praise of God: “Most surely, you conform yourself to sublime morality. (68:4)”

 

Imam Ali (a), describing the moralities of the holy Prophet (s), said: “He was the most generous, the bravest, the most truthful and the most faithful, and in terms of temper, the most lenient and in terms of association, the most honorable. Any one seeing him for the first time is filled with awe, and any one associating with him loves him. I have never seen his like before and after him.”

 

As a picture of the Prophet’s moral conduct, it is sufficient to refer to his story with people of Koreish who allied each other against him and showed him various sorts of bitterness that obliged him to flee his hometown. When God gave him victory against them, they were quite sure he would revenge himself upon them.

 

He said nothing to them but, ‘What do you think I am going to do with you?’

 

‘Only the good, for you are a noble brother and the son of a noble brother,’ answered they.

 

He said: ‘I will repeat the same wording of my brother Joseph the prophet: "Today, you are not condemned". Go, you are released.’

Dua

Allah said to Musa (a.s):
"Aye moosa mujhse us zuban se dua maango jisse tuney gunah nahi kiye ho"
Musa (a.s) replied:"Aye ALLAH main wo zuban kahan se laun
Allah ne jawab diya "Tum apne liye dua dusro se karwao kyun ki unki zuban se tum ne koi gunah nhi kiya!

A position of great glory

Tahajjud comes from the root word hujod which literally means ‘sleep’. However when it is constructed in a different form, tahajjud means to put away sleep and to stay up. Allah (swt) instructs the Holy Prophet (pbuh) to stay up part of the night to establish the night prayer (1).
Nafila has been taken from the word nafl which means extra, and this verse refers to the extra prayers that Allah (swt) asks the Prophet to establish during the night. Many commentators have explained this to mean that the night prayer was obligatory upon the Prophet (pbuh). Others believe the night prayer was initially obligatory upon the Prophet (pbuh) based on the verses in chapter 79 (Surat al-Muzzammil); the above verse (Quran 17:79) abrogated this by declaring the night prayer was recommended on the messenger and not incumbent.
At the end of the verse Allah (swt) says maybe your Lord will raise you to maqam mahmud as a result of the night prayer. Mahmud is extracted from the word hamd and means the station of glory and praise which is the highest position the servant can reach. Other traditions refer to it to mean the station of great intercession as the Holy Prophet is the greatest intercessor in the hereafter (2). This shows the greatness and the high position of the night prayer.  The prophet (pbuh) says:

“Two units of prayer in the middle of night is more beloved to me than the world and whatsoever it may contain”

“When the servant of Allah turns to his Lord in the middle of the dark night, and whispers to Him, Allah establishes His light in his heart . . . then He tells the angels: O my angels, look at my servant. He has turned to Me in the middle of the dark night while the false ones are playing, and the heedless ones are sleeping; bear witness that I have forgiven him. “

Many might think it is hard to wake up in the night to communicate and pray to Allah (swt) and search for a solution of how to overcome this difficulty. If we understand the greatness, kindness and absoluteness of Allah (swt) and comprehend the reality of worship which results in tasting the sweetness of communicating to our Master, the difficulty and challenges involved will be insignificant compared to the sweetness of worship and obedience. It has been narrated from the Imam (as):

“My God, who can have tasted the sweetness of Thy love, then wanted another in place of thee? Who can have become intimate with Thy nearness, then sought removal from thee?”

We spend long hours speaking to our friends, spouses and parents, but when it comes to the One who has gifted us with all these people and blessings many of us fall short and don’t even spend a portion of this time communicating and supplicating to Him (swt). We have to start knowing ourselves and discover the treasure which is hidden within us so it can be a means by which we can know Allah (swt), and to taste the sweetness of worshiping him by which we can reach perfection and fulfil the goal and purpose of our creation.
The night is the best time for this as everyone has gone to sleep and the true servant and lover of Allah (swt) makes the most of this golden opportunity to purify himself, discover his purpose of creation and communicate with Allah (swt). It would be a lie for us to say we love Allah (swt) and bear to sleep the whole night. What type of lover sleeps the whole night when he or she can be talking to their Beloved?

I will never shout again..!

There was a woman once who developed a very serious throat condition. As a result, her doctor prescribed medication and no talking for six months! She thought this would be almost impossible with a husband and six children, but she obeyed the doctor's orders.

For the next six months, when she needed the attention of her children, she blew a whistle... Her instructions became written memos... Questions and answers were written down on pads of paper she had placed around the house.

After six months, the doctor finally allowed her to talk again. Interestingly enough, her first comments were very revealing. She said her children had become calmer and quieter, and as a result, she said, "I don't think I'll ever shout again like I used to."

When asked about the notes, she replied, "You'd be surprised how many hastily written notes I crumpled up and threw in the trash before I gave them to anyone to read. Seeing my own harsh words that I would have spoken had an effect on me that I don't think I'll ever forget."

Many things come out of our mouths before we realize it: gossip, praise, slander, lying, and so on.

Today, make a conscious effort to think about what you say. Determine to listen before speaking, to evaluate the words you use, and ensure your speech doesn't hurt others.

أَ لَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلاً كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصْلُها ثابِتٌ وَ فَرْعُها فِي السَّماءِ

“Have you not noticed how Allah has Set forth a parable? A GOOD WORD is as A good tree whose root is fixed and Firmed in the earth and its branches Reach towards the heaven”. (Quran 14:24)

إِلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ وَ الْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُ

“To Him do ascend the GOOD WORDS; and the good deeds, lift them up” (Quran 35:10)
